Golden Valley Deck Remodel with Bigger Footprint and Custom Lattice

This Golden Valley home had a deck that just wasn't working anymore - limited space, safety concerns, and nothing clean happening underneath it. The homeowner wanted more usable square footage, better access, and a finished look that didn't feel like an afterthought.

We expanded the deck footprint to give them more room to actually use the space. New framing, new railings, and a fresh staircase off the side of the house - all built with pressure-treated lumber that'll hold up through Minnesota winters without question. The staircase run is solid, with properly spaced balusters and a handrail you can actually grip.

One of our favorite details on this one is the black custom lattice skirting along the underside of the deck. It's a small thing that makes a big difference. Instead of leaving that under-deck area open and messy, the lattice ties the whole structure together and gives it a finished appearance from every angle. We also laid glued pea gravel around the base - it keeps things tidy and drainage-friendly underneath.

For the separate yard stair run, we used County Material block steps with a handrail post system. Sturdy, clean, and way safer than what was there before. Deck stain is the next step to wrap everything up and protect the wood long-term. It's coming together exactly the way it should.
