Sometimes a deck just needs the right combination of updates to feel completely different. That's exactly what happened here in Golden Valley. The bones were good - solid structure, plenty of space - but the worn-out wood and aging railing were holding it back. We came in with a clear plan: swap out the bad boards, install new Westbury aluminum railing, and finish it all with a coat of Bark stain to pull everything together.
The before tells the story pretty quickly. Weathered, gray decking. Tired wood railing that had seen one too many Minnesota winters. It still functioned, but it wasn't something you'd want to spend a Saturday afternoon on. That's the kind of deck that gets ignored instead of enjoyed.
We replaced the boards that needed to go and kept what was still solid. That's a big part of deck remodeling done right - you don't tear out what doesn't need to come out. The new Westbury railing went in clean, with that sharp matte black finish that works really well against the warm tone of the Bark stain. The stain itself soaks in and gives the wood that rich, consistent color while adding a layer of protection against moisture and UV.
What we ended up with is a deck that looks intentional. The dark railing, the warm stain, the tight lines on the decking - it all works together. It feels safe, it looks sharp, and it's ready to actually be used. That's the goal on every deck remodel we do.
A well-built deck should hold up season after season without constant upkeep. When the materials are right and the work is done properly, you get something that lasts. Whether it's a full deck remodel or targeted updates like new boards, new railing, and a quality stain coat, the difference in the end result is hard to miss.
